FACT CHECK: Andy Biggs Desperate To Rewrite History of Supporting Tax Hikes on Working Arizonans

8/14/26, 11:45 AM

Andy Biggs continues to remain on defense, scrambling to rewrite his record of supporting tax hikes on working Arizonans. Here are the facts:

CLAIM #1: “[Katie Hobbs] claims I want to raise your taxes by 23 percent, but I'm not going to raise your taxes.”

THE TRUTH: As a state legislator, Biggs cosponsored legislation to stick Arizonans with a higher sales tax. He took this bad idea to Congress too, where he championed legislation to saddle Arizonans with a 23 percent national sales tax on everything you buy. In his own words, Biggs’ “most passionate tax issue” is a higher sales tax, praising the model for having “reinvigorated Ireland.”

CLAIM #2: “It's an important part of our platform that we're going to eliminate the state income tax, and we'll do it by getting rid of waste, fraud, and abuse, and streamlining government.”

THE TRUTH: In June, Biggs killed a bipartisan deal to protect police officers, firefighters, and teachers and crack down on waste, fraud, and abuse by banning luxury purchases in the ESA program — inserting himself into state negotiations just to blow it up. Biggs' proposal left untouched the loopholes that waste taxpayer dollars on California theme parks, lingerie, and diamond rings.

In June, Biggs voted to allow the Department of Justice to create a nearly $2 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” which could compensate convicted January 6 insurrectionists. According to the chief January 6 organizer, Biggs himself had helped spearhead this violent insurrection and could possibly profit from this fund.

CLAIM #3: “I've also voted for the two biggest tax reductions in American history.”

THE TRUTH: Andy Biggs voted for the largest tax hike on Arizonans in 50 years.

Biggs voted to protect and expand the cost-hiking tariffs, causing grocery prices to hit all-time highs, and praised them as “a brilliant economic strategy.” Americans have shouldered 90 percent of the nationwide tariff bill, and Arizona families alone are paying over $2,200 more since the start of 2025.

American households are shelling out an extra $1,000 due to the war in Iran that Andy Biggs has consistently voted to continue four straight times, after fuel prices hit all-time highs.

And Biggs voted to strip tax credits from over 400,000 Arizonans, sending monthly healthcare premiums up 30 percent, and taking healthcare away from another 200,000 Arizonans. His votes led to the closure of one Arizona hospital and nine local healthcare clinics, and put eight more rural hospitals at risk of permanent closure.

Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:

“Andy Biggs cannot dodge the fact he wants a 23 percent tax on everything Arizonans buy. And his record confirms it – at every turn, he has voted to raise costs on working Arizonans to serve Washington's cost-hiking agenda.”
