TUCSON – Today, Senate Democratic Leader Priya Sundareshan, Assistant Democratic Leader Nancy Gutierrez, and Army veteran Shelly Goode-Burgoyne denounced Andy Biggs’ Washington-first, cost-hiking agenda that has directly raised grocery, gas, and healthcare costs on Tucsonans.
This is the kickoff stop on Copper State War Room’s final “Biggs Costs” Tour, 14 days out from Election Day. You can read more about the previous stops HERE.
Andy Biggs voted six times for the war in Iran that caused Arizona fuel prices to hit all-time highs at nearly $6.50 for diesel and $5 for regular, while trying to lie to Arizonans that "gas prices already dropped.”
Andy Biggs pushed for cuts to Social Security and Medicare, as well as raising the retirement age to 69 years old.
Biggs voted to protect and expand the cost-hiking tariffs, which he praised as “a brilliant economic strategy,” but caused groceries to hit all-time highs. Biggs has claimed that there is "no inflation," said that the tariffs were “not inflationary,” and argued that Washington has “tamed inflation” and “brought everything back down.”
Andy Biggs wants a 23 percent tax hike on everything Arizonans buy. Biggs has repeatedly backed a 23 percent sales tax, meaning higher costs on everyday purchases like groceries, clothing, school supplies, and household essentials. He has even called this new tax his "most passionate" tax policy.
Biggs voted to cut healthcare for over 200,000 Arizonans, raise monthly premiums by 30 percent, and wants to abolish Medicaid in Arizona (AHCCCS) entirely. His votes directly closed nine local healthcare clinics, shuttered one hospital in Tucson, and placed an additional seven rural hospitals at risk of permanent closure.
Senate Democratic Leader Priya Sundareshan, LD18:
“Andy Biggs has spent years backing policies that have driven up costs for Arizona families. Now he's running for governor and promising to fix the very problems he helped create. You can't help start the fire and then expect Arizonans to trust you to put it out.”
Assistant Democratic Leader Nancy Gutierrez, LD18:
“At every turn, Andy Biggs has backed Washington's cost-hiking agenda. Now he wants to bring that same agenda to Arizona. Arizonans deserve a governor who will lower costs, not one who has spent years supporting policies that drive them higher.”
Army Veteran Shelly Goode-Burgoyne:
“Andy Biggs had a choice on tariffs, healthcare, and the war in Iran: support Washington's agenda or stand against policies that would increase costs for Arizona families. His votes show which side he took. And Arizona families are living with the financial consequences.”
