Andy Biggs’ Tariffs Cause Steel Prices To Hit Four-Year Highs

The price of U.S. steel has gradually risen 52 percent as a direct result of tariffs, creating a supply shortage, which Bloomberg analysts expect to “continue ticking higher.”
Last week, Andy Biggs stood on stage to celebrate cost-hiking tariffs with Donald Trump, two weeks after downplaying tariffs and insisting "that's not why Arizona is unaffordable,” while the Arizona Capitol Times noted he "repeated support" for tariffs that "already have had an economic impact on Arizonans."
Biggs’ tariffs have notably skyrocketed housing costs, as local builders deem the current times an "unstable environment” causing businesses to feel “clobbered” with raw material costs. Arizona business leaders described tariffs as a tax on working families and businesses alike, warning of their "damaging effects" on the state's economy. The cost to Arizona households: more than $2,200 and counting.
Biggs has voted to keep the tariffs that are hurting Arizona in place, pushed to expand them, and called them “a brilliant economic strategy.” Even as prices have continued rising, Biggs has claimed there is “no inflation,” said tariffs are “not inflationary,” and argued that Washington had already “tamed inflation” and “brought everything back down.”
Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:
“Steel prices have skyrocketed 52 percent thanks to the cost-hiking tariffs Andy Biggs keeps voting to protect. While Biggs celebrates his Washington agenda, Arizona workers, families, and businesses are left footing the bill for higher construction costs and more expensive housing.”
