Biggs Dismisses Concerns About How Tariffs Are Raising Costs

9/28/26, 4:00 PM

Andy Biggs is so rattled by questions on his cost-hiking record that he’s losing his temper at reporters. Last week, Arizona Family's Dennis Welch asked him a simple question: "Do you support the war in Iran and do you support the administration's tariff policies?" Biggs downplayed the tariffs, insisting "that's not why Arizona is unaffordable," and the Arizona Capitol Times noted he "repeated support" for tariffs that "already have had an economic impact on Arizonans."

Arizona business leaders disagree with Biggs. They've described tariffs as a tax on working families and businesses alike, warning of their "damaging effects" on the state's economy. The cost to Arizona households: more than $2,200 and counting.

Biggs has voted to keep the tariffs that are hurting Arizona in place, pushed to expand them, and called them “a brilliant economic strategy.” Even as prices have continued rising, Biggs has claimed there is “no inflation,” said tariffs are “not inflationary,” and argued that Washington had already “tamed inflation” and “brought everything back down.”

Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:

“Andy Biggs called tariffs a ‘brilliant economic strategy’ and claimed there is ‘no inflation’ as Arizona families face higher costs. Now, as Arizonans are paying more, he is dismissing how they are raising costs. No matter what Biggs says between now and Election Day, Arizonans know that his cost-hiking record is why everyday life keeps getting more expensive.”
