Tucson Leaders Call Out Andy Biggs’ Washington Cost-Hiking Agenda on Third Stop of “Biggs Costs” Tour
7/28/26, 6:30 PM
TUCSON – Today, Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva, disability advocate and lifelong Tucsonan Chad Durns, and affordable housing builder David Wohl delivered a scathing condemnation of Andy Biggs’ cost-hiking economic agenda that has directly caused all-time high grocery, gas, and healthcare prices. This was the third stop on Copper State War Room’s “Biggs Costs” Tour. You can read more about the previous stops in Phoenix HERE and Yuma HERE.
Andy Biggs wants a 23 percent tax hike on everything Arizonans buy. Biggs has repeatedly backed a 23 percent sales tax, meaning higher costs on everyday purchases like groceries, clothing, school supplies, and household essentials. He has even called this new tax his "most passionate" tax policy.
Biggs voted to protect and expand the cost-hiking tariffs, causing groceries to hit all-time highs, and praised tariffs as “a brilliant economic strategy.” Biggs has claimed that there is "no inflation," said that the tariffs were “not inflationary,” and argued that Washington has “tamed inflation” and “brought everything back down.”
He voted to cut Arizonans’ healthcare and raise monthly premiums by 30 percent. Biggs also voted for the war in Iran four straight times, personally casting the deciding vote against bipartisan attempts to lower gas prices.
Yet despite the toll this Washington budget has taken on Arizona families, Biggs has called the cost-hiking partisan budget a "good thing" and has pushed for "the more cut approach.”
Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva:
“[Andy Biggs] voted for legislation that slashes Medicaid, cuts food assistance, raises healthcare costs for working families, all while handing trillions of dollars in tax breaks to billionaires and giant corporations. Here in Southern Arizona, those numbers aren’t abstract: more than 43,000 people in my district, inArzona’s CD-07 are seeing their healthcare costs rise because Republicans chose to end enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits.”
Disability advocate and lifelong Tucsonan Chad Durns:
“Medicaid paid for the MRIs that helped doctors understand what was happening to my body… Without that care, I wouldn't be standing here today. That's why Andy Biggs' vote for the largest healthcare cut in modern history isn't just another vote in Washington. For me, it was personal.”
David Wohl, President of Newport SW LLC:
“Instead of helping us build more homes and lower housing costs, Andy Biggs has actively voted to make the housing crisis worse. He was just one of a handful of members of Congress to vote against the largest bipartisan housing affordability bills in decades: the 21st Century Road to Housing Act.”
