Phoenix Workers and Leaders Call Out Andy Biggs’ Cost-Hiking Agenda in Inaugural Stop of “Biggs Costs” Tour
7/23/26, 6:30 PM
PHOENIX – Today, District 26 State Senator Flavio Bravo and members of UFCW Local 99 delivered a scathing condemnation of Andy Biggs’ cost-hiking economic agenda that has directly caused all-time high grocery, gas, and healthcare prices.
Andy Biggs wants a 23 percent tax hike on everything Arizonans buy. Biggs has repeatedly backed a 23 percent sales tax, meaning higher costs on everyday purchases like groceries, clothing, school supplies, and household essentials. He has even called this new tax his "most passionate" tax policy.
Biggs voted to protect and expand the cost-hiking tariffs, causing groceries to hit all-time highs, and praised tariffs as “a brilliant economic strategy.” Biggs has claimed that there is "no inflation," said that the tariffs were “not inflationary,” and argued that Washington has “tamed inflation” and “brought everything back down.”
He voted to cut Arizonans’ healthcare and raise monthly premiums by 30 percent. Biggs also voted for the war in Iran four straight times, personally casting the deciding vote against bipartisan attempts to lower gas prices.
Yet despite the toll this Washington budget has taken on Arizona families, Biggs has called the cost-hiking partisan budget a "good thing" and has pushed for "the more cut approach.”
District 26 State Senator Flavio Bravo:
“Working families across Phoenix and across this entire state are fed up with paying the price for Andy Biggs' Washington agenda. From tariffs to healthcare cuts to his 23 percent sales tax, Andy Biggs keeps finding new ways to make life more expensive for Arizona families.”
Tempe Fry’s Grocery Worker & UFCW Local 99 Shop Steward Gayle Lutz:
“Not only has Andy Biggs ripped away meals from 180,000 Arizonan children, but he actively denies the cost-hiking effects of his votes on working families and their household budgets. When asked about the crushing weight of these rising costs, Andy Biggs looked Arizonans in the eye and claimed there is ‘no inflation.’”
Phoenix Fry’s Pharmacy Technician & UFCW Local 99 Shop Steward Cindy Vargas:
“Every day behind the counter, I have to watch parents decide which medication they can skip or ask if they can split pills in half just to make it to their next paycheck. These cuts have a real, permanent, and lifelong negative impact on human lives, and Andy Biggs’ complete disregard for our health is disqualifying. If Andy Biggs thinks stripping healthcare from hundreds of thousands of Arizonans is a ‘good thing,’ he should stop hiding behind Washington talking points and own the damage he has caused.”
