Copper State Chaos: Andy No Words, Andy No Spine, Sorry Mom!

5/15/26, 11:15 PM

Welcome to Copper State Chaos, Copper State War Room’s weekly recap on the fails, feuds, and full-blown chaos in the Arizona Republican gubernatorial primary.

With Andy Biggs and David Schweikert locked in a bitter race to the bottom, this primary is spiraling into an ugly, expensive mess. We’ll keep the receipts – so you don’t have to.

Don’t miss this week’s chaos:

ANDY NO WORDS: On Tuesday, Arizona Democrats and community leaders joined Copper State War Room and held a press conference in Phoenix to demand Andy Biggs explain why he is backing devastating budget cuts that would hurt Arizona families, which he praised as “common sense.” Biggs “wouldn’t elaborate” on why he wants to slash wildfire prevention funding, cut first responder pay, undermine child safety services, and rip meals away from kids — all while giving hundreds of millions in tax breaks to billionaires, special interests, and data centers. Still, no words.

ANDY NO SPINE: Yesterday, Copper State War Room joined Yuma leaders who forcefully called out Andy Biggs and David Schweikert for supporting Washington’s agenda, driving up gas prices to record highs, and raising costs for Arizona families. Both the Biggs and Schweikert campaigns refused to address their votes to back the war in Iran, which is causing prices to keep climbing. In fact, mere hours after yesterday’s press conference in Yuma, where diesel hit its all-time high of $6.40 last month, Biggs and Schweikert voted again to keep prices high. Because of them, Arizona families have paid an extra $2,200 for goods and services, including $457 more in transportation costs alone, which is one of the highest increases in the country. As a whole, Arizonans paid at least $1.6 billion in additional costs last year from tariffs passed directly onto consumers.

SORRY, MOM!: Arizona families celebrating Mother's Day last Sunday were met with a painful reminder of the cost-hiking agenda championed by Andy Biggs and David Schweikert. Small businesses across Arizona continue to warn that rising costs are being passed directly onto consumers. According to a recent FOX10 report, the Arizona Flower Market, one of the Valley's busiest small businesses, was forced to raise their prices by $5 to $10 “due to the gas, tariffs… everything that we’ve gotten hit with this year.” Biggs has called tariffs “a brilliant economic strategy” and argued that the tariffs were “not inflationary,” before claiming that Washington has “tamed inflation.” Schweikert bragged about personally “doing the calculations” with the White House on tariffs and proposed his own new tax instead of offering Arizonans relief.

That’s all for Copper State Chaos this week. Thanks for reading – we’ll be back next week to keep tabs on the chaos. Have a great weekend!
