Arizona Leaders Demand That Biggs Answer for the Devastating Cuts in Arizona GOP Legislature’s Budget

PHOENIX – Today, Arizona leaders demanded that Andy Biggs answer for the devastating cuts in the Arizona GOP Legislature’s budget proposal that he praised as “common sense.”
The Republican budget proposal would slash wildfire prevention funding, cut first responder pay, undermine child safety services, and rip meals away from kids — all while giving hundreds of millions in tax breaks to billionaires, special interests, and data centers.
When asked by the Yellow Sheet Report to explain the harmful cuts he supports, Biggs “wouldn’t elaborate.” Speakers called out Biggs for refusing to answer tough questions about how the budget he's praised would make life harder for Arizona families.
The event comes after Biggs already voted in Washington for a cost-hiking agenda that raises costs and threatens healthcare access for Arizonans.
House Democratic Leader Oscar De Los Santos:
“In Washington, Andy Biggs already voted for the same reckless agenda — one that raises costs, threatens healthcare, and hurts working families so billionaires can get richer. Now he wants to bring the same failed Washington priorities right here to Arizona. And when people ask questions? When reporters ask him to explain why firefighters should lose support? Why should families lose services? Why should students pay more? Why billionaires deserve another tax break? Andy Biggs refuses to answer.”
State Representative Kevin Volk, District 17:
“Arizona can't and shouldn't follow the example of Congress and Andy Biggs. This is a budget that goes after Arizona students and their families. A budget that goes after Arizona jobs… More giveaways for small groups of people who need it the least, at the expense of everyday Arizonans. And now, when Arizona families need answers, Andy Biggs hides. I want Andy Biggs to elaborate on this budget.”
Karin Kline, Social Worker:
“If Andy Biggs wants to support these cuts, then he should explain them publicly. He should explain to Arizona families why billionaires deserve another tax break while services for children and working people are put on the chopping block. He should explain why firefighters and emergency services should do more with less.”
