Yuma Leaders Called Out Andy Biggs and David Schweikert for Driving Up Gas Prices

YUMA – Today, Yuma leaders called out Andy Biggs and David Schweikert for supporting the reckless Washington agenda that is driving up gas prices and raising costs for Arizona families.
Speakers highlighted how Biggs and Schweikert voted against efforts to halt further military action in Iran as experts warned the conflict would send fuel prices soaring.
The event also comes as a new Joint Economic Committee report found Arizona families are paying an extra $2,200 for goods and services because of the cost-hiking agenda backed by Biggs and Schweikert. The report found Arizona families are paying $457 more in transportation costs alone — one of the highest increases in the country — while Arizona families paid at least $1.6 billion in additional costs last year from tariffs passed directly onto consumers.
Speakers discussed how rising fuel prices are hurting agriculture, small businesses, workers, and families across Yuma County, while Andy Biggs and David Schweikert offer no relief for Arizona families.
Yuma County Board of Supervisors Chairman Martin Porchas:
“Andy Biggs and David Schweikert spent years complaining about high gas prices and inflation. They repeatedly told Arizona families they understood the pressure people were under and promised they would lower costs. But when they had the chance to stand up against a reckless war that experts warned would send fuel prices skyrocketing, both Biggs and Schweikert voted to keep the war going and keep raising gas prices. Now Arizona families are paying the price.”
Yuma Councilmember Carol Smith:
“When fuel prices rise, parents have to make harder decisions about their household budgets. Seniors on fixed incomes feel squeezed even further. Working families are forced to spend more just to get to work, buy groceries, and manage everyday responsibilities. That’s why what Andy Biggs and David Schweikert are doing feels so dishonest to many Arizonans. For years, they talked nonstop about inflation and high gas prices. Every increase at the pump became a political talking point. They claimed they understood what families were going through and promised voters they would lower costs. But when they had the opportunity to oppose a reckless war that is now driving up fuel prices, both Biggs and Schweikert voted for it.”
Yuma County Democratic Party Chair Xanthe Bullard:
“So families are now getting hit from every direction — higher fuel costs, higher transportation costs, and higher prices on everyday necessities. And what are Andy Biggs and David Schweikert doing to help? Nothing. They are not offering relief. They are not fighting to lower costs. They are not standing up for Arizona families. Instead, they continue backing the same reckless Washington agenda that is making life more expensive.”
