Andy Biggs and Karrin Taylor Robson’s Favorite Tariffs Are Driving Up Costs for Arizonans

With every passing month, prices keep rising as a result of federal tariffs, the largest tax hike to Arizona families in five decades. Sweepstakes-winner Andy Biggs and billionaire corporate lobbyist Karrin Taylor Robson backed cost-hiking tariffs while working Arizonans foot the bill.

Here are the higher costs they supported:

• Beef prices hit record highs for Arizonans at over $6 per pound as a result of 50 percent tariffs on international beef imports and a cattle shortage that the Arizona Cattle Growers Association worries will elevate costs “for years.”

• Ground coffee hit an all-time high of $7 per pound this year, with Arizona coffee shops expressing concern from operating costs skyrocketing over 200 percent, “by far the most expensive the market has ever been.” With 50 percent tariffs on Brazil taking effect this past Saturday, these prices are guaranteed to rise even higher.

• Grocery prices rose 8.4 percent overall, and half of Americans say the cost of groceries is a source of major stress in their lives.

• As a direct result of tariffs, Arizonans are also in line to pay up to 55 percent more in health insurance premiums next year, the largest increase to health insurance costs in 15 years, while simultaneously suffering from the largest cut to Medicaid in Arizona history and subsequent rural hospital closures.

Despite warnings from Arizona business leaders that these tariffs could trigger "recession-level consequences,” as well as caution from former Gov. Doug Ducey on plummeting consumer confidence, Andy Biggs and Karrin Taylor Robson continue to back the disastrous policy that is making everyday items more expensive.
