Five Days, Five Ways That Andy Biggs and Karrin Taylor Robson Are Out-of-Touch With Arizonans: Raising Taxes, Hiking Costs

8/5/25, 12:00 PM

Copper State War Room is continuing its first full week of the “Five Days, Five Ways” press series spotlighting how Andy Biggs and Karrin Taylor Robson have failed Arizona. Day Two: Both GOP candidates have offered full-throated endorsements of Donald Trump’s chaotic tariffs that are causing prices to skyrocket and raising costs for small businesses.

Both Andy Biggs and Karrin Taylor Robson have applauded one of the biggest tax increases in Arizona history — Donald Trump’s tariffs. Andy Biggs has been the loudest cheerleader for Arizona’s largest tax hike in five decades, calling Trump’s tariffs a “brilliant economic strategy” and saying the tariffs were “already working” the same day the stock market crashed in April. Karrin Taylor Robson eventually broke her silence by tweeting her support of this tax hike on Arizonans: “Keep fighting, Mr. President!”

The cost to Arizona? The Center for American Progress estimates the tariffs could cost Arizona families up to $5,200 per year, the largest tax hike in five decades. Even Doug Ducey acknowledged the damage, saying Trump’s tariffs weren’t helping the economy and urged him to “calm the business community.” Arizona’s agricultural producers have sounded the alarm. Grocery prices have already gone up in Arizona, and a new poll shows half of Americans say the cost of groceries is a source of major stress in their lives. Arizona Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Danny Seiden didn’t mince words: “Tariffs are a bad idea,” “the tariffs are paid by us," and they are “transferred down to the consumer.”

Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:

“Sweepstakes-winner Andy Biggs and billionaire Karrin Taylor Robson support the largest tax hike on Arizona families in 50 years. They don’t care about the squeeze Arizonans feel at the grocery store or the pressure on small businesses — all they care about is staying in Donald Trump’s good graces. While they play politics, Arizona families, workers, and businesses pay the price.”

The Copper State War Room will continue highlighting five key ways Biggs and Taylor Robson are out of step with Arizona voters throughout the week. Missed yesterday’s release? Catch up on Day One: Ripping Away Healthcare.
