Copper State Chaos: Mo Elections Mo Problems, Nothing To Say, What a Gentleman
5/8/26, 7:00 PM
Welcome to Copper State Chaos, Copper State War Room’s weekly recap on the fails, feuds, and full-blown chaos in the Arizona Republican gubernatorial primary.
With Andy Biggs and David Schweikert locked in a bitter race to the bottom, this primary is spiraling into an ugly, expensive mess. We’ll keep the receipts – so you don’t have to.
Don’t miss this week’s chaos:
MO ELECTIONS, MO PROBLEMS: Certified platinum election denier Andy Biggs joined Kari Lake in denying the results of the 2022 election, telling KJZZ he “wouldn’t say” whether Gov. Hobbs beat Lake when asked directly. This follows David Schweikert’s recent claim that Arizona’s 2022 attorney general race was “probably stolen,” where he tried to explain away the comments by saying he was “overcaffeinated.”
NOTHING TO SAY: Arizona Republicans in the Legislature are proposing a harmful budget that would cut first responder pay, make it harder to fight wildfires, and undermine child safety services – all to give $600 million in tax breaks to billionaires and special interests, and a $30 million tax break for data centers. Andy Biggs praised them for doing “a pretty good job.” However, when asked by the Yellow Sheet Report to go further into detail since the cuts would be devastating for Arizonans, Biggs “wouldn’t elaborate.” It’s no surprise Biggs is backing these disastrous cuts and praising the partisan politicians proposing them because he voted in DC for the reckless partisan budget law that is ripping away healthcare, raising costs, and threatening rural hospitals.
WHAT A GENTLEMAN: After being the only Arizona Republican snubbed from a Donald Trump rally last month, David Schweikert claimed last week that the lack of Trump’s endorsement was his own choice. He stated he didn't want to “embarrass some of the staff at the White House” by highlighting his “better voting record with the President” compared to Biggs. Schweikert added, “You grab it when you need it. When you don't need it, you don't bother them.” Turns out he didn’t need the endorsement the whole time!
That’s all for Copper State Chaos this week. Thanks for reading – we’ll be back next week to keep tabs on the chaos. Have a great weekend!
