As Washington Eyes Even Higher Tariffs, Biggs and Schweikert Keep Doubling Down on Cost-Hiking Taxes

As Washington moves toward another round of universal tariffs that could reach as high as 12.5 percent, Andy Biggs and David Schweikert continue doubling down on the cost-hiking tariff taxes that Arizona families and small businesses are already paying.
American consumers and businesses have shouldered 90 percent of the bill themselves, yet Biggs and Schweikert have voted against giving them relief.
The proposal comes as businesses warn they expect to pass even more tariff costs onto consumers through higher prices, adding to the burden families are already facing at the grocery store, the gas pump, and the doctor’s office.
Biggs has been an outspoken cheerleader for the tariffs, calling them “a brilliant economic strategy.” He argued that tariffs were “not inflationary,” before claiming that Washington has “tamed inflation,” and stating that he would like to “explore [tariffs] more.” Schweikert, meanwhile, has bragged about personally “doing the calculations” with the White House on tariffs, proposing his own new tax instead of offering Arizonans relief.
Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:
“Arizona families are already paying more for groceries, gas, and everyday essentials because Andy Biggs and David Schweikert backed Washington's tariff taxes and then voted against providing relief. Now, instead of fighting to lower costs, they're doubling down as Washington pushes even higher tariffs that will hit Arizona families and small businesses even harder.”
