Arizona Democrats Slam Biggs, Taylor Robson, and Schweikert for Cheering Tariff Tax Hike on Arizona Families

10/7/25, 10:30 PM

Today, Arizona Democrats and community leaders held the first Copper State War Room press conference in Tucson to hold Andy Biggs, Karrin Taylor Robson, and David Schweikert accountable for cheering Trump’s reckless tariffs that have driven prices to all-time highs for Arizona families.

Last month, Biggs and Schweikert voted twice against an effort to stop the cost-hiking tariffs. Biggs called tariffs a “brilliant economic strategy,” and Schweikert bragged that he speaks [4:00] to the White House about tariffs “every other day,” and is “doing the calculations.” Karrin Taylor Robson has argued that Trump should go further in raising costs for Arizona families, tweeting her full support for more tariffs, “Keep fighting, Mr. President!”

University of Arizona student leader Eddie Barron:

Now, we are being told that health premiums could rise to 75 percent next year, the biggest increase in 15 years. These aren’t just numbers. They are the real lives of students and young people like me, friends who have had to work extra jobs, taking time away from school, just to keep up with groceries and gas. People are skipping meals to save money or dropping classes because they can’t pay tuition and make rent in the same month. Instead of standing up for us, Andy Biggs, Karrin Taylor Robson, and David Schweikert are celebrating the very policies that are making our lives harder.”

Communications Workers of America Local 7026 Representative Cecilia Valdez:

“Schweikert bragged that he was on the phone with the White House every other day ‘doing the calculations on tariffs.’ Biggs voted twice last week against efforts to cancel them. Taylor Robson cheered Trump on while families paid more at the checkout line. They aren’t standing with workers. They aren’t defending families. They are celebrating policies that take money straight out of our paychecks.”

Pima County District 5 Supervisor Andrés Cano:

“We are here to tell the truth, perhaps, an inconvenient truth. The reality is that these three folks, David, Karrin, and Andy, have the power to make life easier for Arizonans, but they are choosing not to. They are more upset at upsetting Donald Trump than watching families struggle to afford the basics. Andy Biggs, Karrin Taylor Robson, and David Schweikert have shown us who they are- politicians who put the President first, and Arizonans last. We won’t forget that. When Arizona families needed them most, these three individuals turned their backs.”
