Another Month, Another Grocery Cost Hike Because of Biggs and Schweikert’s Tariff Tax Agenda

Last week, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the May 2026 Consumer Price Index, where we saw another consecutive monthly increase in overall prices. This continued trend of skyrocketing costs, especially grocery and beverage costs, has hit families and businesses alike, simultaneously causing massive uncertainty for industries across Arizona.
Over the last year, cost-hiking tariff policies have changed over 50 times, causing chaos in Arizona ’s economy. Andy Biggs and David Schweikert have backed them every single time. In April alone, grocery prices soared faster than any month in the last four years.
Expert economists have said that “very few products haven’t been affected by tariffs,” which is why Arizonans paid an extra $2,200 for goods and services, according to a Joint Economic Committee report.
When asked, specifically, if he supported the tariffs on Mexico last month, Biggs was clear: “Yeah, I do.” He then doubled down, saying that he would like to “explore [tariffs] more.” Biggs has called tariffs “a brilliant economic strategy” and argued that the tariffs were “not inflationary,” before claiming that Washington has “tamed inflation.” Schweikert bragged about personally “doing the calculations” with the White House on tariffs and proposed his own new tax instead of offering Arizonans relief.
Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:
“It’s another day, another round of cost hikes that Andy Biggs and David Schweikert are happy to let Arizona families shoulder. Despite Washington’s tariff agenda making it more and more expensive to put food on the table, Biggs and Schweikert have always sold Arizonans out as long as it puts them in favor with DC.”
