An Expensive Memorial Day Weekend as Biggs and Schweikert’s Tariff Tax Agenda Blasts Budgets

Over the holiday weekend, Arizona families honored the sacrifices of our servicemembers and joined together for Memorial Day events. While Arizonans hosted backyard barbecues and family gatherings, everyone has unfortunately felt the pain of higher costs from Andy Biggs and David Schweikert’s cost-hiking tariff agenda.
Ground beef hit another record high of nearly $7 per pound, demonstrating a continuous, repeating trend of skyrocketing grocery costs. In April alone, grocery prices soared faster than any month in the last four years.
Arizonans paid an extra $2,200 for goods and services because of Biggs and Schweikert’s cost-hiking tariff agenda, according to a recent Joint Economic Committee report, and Arizona small businesses continue to reel from operating costs that are up to 900 percent higher.
Biggs has called tariffs “a brilliant economic strategy” and argued that the tariffs were “not inflationary,” before claiming that Washington has “tamed inflation.” Schweikert bragged about personally “doing the calculations” with the White House on tariffs and proposed his own new tax instead of offering Arizonans relief.
Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:
“Whether it’s a backyard barbeque or driving to visit friends and family, Andy Biggs and David Schweikert have voted for an agenda that has made everything about life more expensive. Their devotion to reckless tariffs and Washington’s cost-hiking agenda is obvious at every turn.”
