“Downright Nasty”: Andy Biggs and David Schweikert Take the Gloves Off

3/19/26, 9:15 PM

The gloves have officially come off in the Arizona Republican gubernatorial primary and neither Andy Biggs nor David Schweikert are holding back any punches. But don’t just take our word for it – take it from Arizona’s Family anchors who recently compared this “downright nasty” primary to a “street fight.”

Last week, Schweikert hammered Biggs in a campaign flyer, accusing him of cozying up to white supremacists and antisemites, but these allegations didn’t just stay in print. During a radio interview just days later, Schweikert slammed Biggs for his ties to extremist groups, with Schweikert claiming that unlike his opponent, “I’m not going to show up at events with the Proud Boys. I’m not going to say antisemitic things.”

The Biggs campaign called Schweikert’s attacks “desperate,” moments before Biggs invoked none other than Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Schweikert immediately shot back, saying, “If you really intend to win an election in Arizona, I’m not sure you go around comparing yourself to a Confederate General.”

Biggs’ allies at Turning Point USA also jumped into the fray, with COO Tyler Bowyer berating Schweikert’s “warpath” offensive as “desperate” and “insane.” Arizona Freedom Caucus founder and State Sen. Jake Hoffman has accused Schweikert of hating “MAGA and conservatives,” labeling him an “embarrassment” and a “hindrance.” Schweikert went further to claim that “Biggs supporters” like Turning Point are “upset that they're learning the truth about their candidate.”

Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:

“This nasty primary is shaping up to be an all-out Republican brawl as Andy Biggs and David Schweikert trade increasingly low blows. As both candidates stay focused on any and all topics except lowering costs for Arizona families, the fact remains that whoever emerges from this chaotic primary will be deeply damaged and out-of-step with Arizonans thanks to their cost-hiking agenda.”
