While Biggs Campaigns in Yuma, Families Face the Chaos He Created for Their Healthcare

10/5/25, 6:00 PM

Copper State War Room released the following statement from Arizona Democratic Party Chair Charlene Fernandez following Andy Biggs’ campaign stops in Yuma County today:

“The only reason Andy Biggs should be in Yuma County is to apologize for putting Onvida Health at risk. He doesn’t care if the NICU or behavioral health unit is forced to shut down next — all he cares about is handing out tax breaks to billionaires.

I’ve seen firsthand how families struggle when they can’t get the care they need — and Andy Biggs just made that harder by voting to rip away funding from Onvida Health. Arizona Democrats will continue to fight to protect the healthcare of families across our great state, and that starts with making sure Andy Biggs is nowhere near the governor’s office.”

BACKGROUND:

  • Medicaid cuts could force Onvida Health to eliminate critical services across Yuma. The hospital's CEO warned that the proposed cuts to Medicaid would require difficult decisions about which services to reduce or cut entirely. Behavioral health services, which already operate at a loss but serve a vital community need, could face closure. Even essential NICU services are at risk, threatening healthcare access for all Yuma residents regardless of insurance coverage.
