Swept Under the Rug: Biggs and Schweikert’s Tariff Taxes Drive Up Spring Cleaning Costs

As Arizona families are gearing up for this season’s spring cleaning at the hardware or home goods store, they will find out that the cost of refreshing their homes has only gone up thanks to Andy Biggs and David Schweikert’s cost-hiking agenda.
Despite the Supreme Court ruling federal tariff taxes unconstitutional, Biggs and Schweikert have voted twice this year to keep their cost-hiking tariff agenda in place and scrub away any semblance of affordability.
Here is how Biggs and Schweikert’s tariffs are making a mess out of Arizonans’ spring cleaning budgets:
WASHING AWAY SAVINGS: Last year, Procter & Gamble, the parent company of cleaning giants such as Tide and Dawn, raised prices on a quarter of their products “due to tariffs,” a direct shift of costs onto consumers. This includes everything from paper towels to air fresheners, Swiffer mops to liquid soaps.
THE SOAP SQUEEZE: According to last month’s Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Producer Price Index, the cost of soaps and detergents are foaming up fast, surging twice as fast as the standard rate of inflation over the last year. This has turned into a hidden laundry and dish tax that hits families with children the hardest.
Arizona families already paid an additional $1.6 billion in 2025 because of tariffs, a burden predicted to rise even further in 2026.
Both Biggs and Schweikert’s tariff agenda is scrubbing away any cost savings for Arizonans. Biggs called tariffs “a brilliant economic strategy,” and Schweikert bragged about personally “doing the calculations” with the White House on tariffs.
Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:
“Arizonans trying to give their homes a fresh start this spring are being hung out to dry by Andy Biggs and David Schweikert. Instead of sweeping these rising costs under the rug, Biggs and Schweikert must explain why they are prioritizing Washington’s illegal tariff taxes over Arizona’s families and small businesses, who are feeling the squeeze every day.”
