Sky-High Gas Prices Could “Spell Doom” for Arizona Republicans

4/15/26, 4:30 PM

Arizona’s Family is spotlighting how Arizonans will blame Republicans like Andy Biggs and David Schweikert for sky-high fuel prices, which could “spell doom” for their party up and down the ballot in November.

The president argued that there may be more pain for Arizonans at the pump through the midterms, which the report noted, “In practical terms, it means families might start bracing themselves for the long run. Politically, it could mean it’s time for Republicans to panic.”

That would put Republican gubernatorial candidates Andy Biggs and David Schweikert in the hot seat, since they both voted to keep gas prices climbing.

And with gas in Phoenix already up almost $2 per gallon over the last two months and diesel prices hovering around their all-time high in Arizona, relief isn’t coming any time soon thanks to Washington’s cost-hiking agenda. These costs are on top of harmful tariffs that Biggs and Schweikert support that are raising the price of groceries and everyday necessities for any family.

  • President Trump is talking about gas prices, and he’s not promising speedy relief.

  • He called it “short-term pain” but now says prices will likely stay high through the midterm elections.

  • “Do you think the price of oil and gas will be lower before the midterm elections?” a reporter asked.

  • “I hope so. I mean I think so. It could be. It could be the same. Or maybe a little bit higher,” Trump said.

  • In practical terms, it means families might start bracing themselves for the long run.

  • Politically, it could mean it’s time for Republicans to panic.

  • “The main issues for this election are going to be affordability, the economy, and you can’t have runaway gas prices. So Republican candidates are going to learn that voters really do care about gas prices,” Marson said.

  • The evidence backs him up. Seven in 10 Americans rank high gas prices as their top concern amid the Iran war, according to one recent poll.

  • Arizona races in jeopardy

  • This could spell doom for Republicans in Arizona who are trying to hold a pair of congressional swing districts this fall.
