Phoenix Leaders and Workers Denounce Biggs and Schweikert’s Cost-Hiking Agenda on Eve of Donald Trump’s Visit

4/16/26, 8:00 PM

PHOENIX – Today, a group of Phoenix leaders and workers denounced Andy Biggs and David Schweikert’s cost-hiking agenda as President Donald Trump travels to Phoenix on Friday. With Biggs and Schweikert fully endorsing Washington policies that have led to rising costs, from groceries to fuel prices and healthcare premiums, the two own the affordability crisis facing Arizona families.

Both Biggs and Schweikert voted twice this year against an effort to stop the cost-hiking tariffs. Biggs called tariffs a “brilliant economic strategy,” while Schweikert bragged about working with the White House on tariffs “every other day” and “doing the calculations” on them. Both have proudly tied themselves to the Washington agenda, driving higher costs for Arizonans

State Senator Analise Ortiz, District 24:

Andy Biggs is taking the stage tomorrow with the President, who says affordability is a hoax, while Arizona families are paying more for everything. Remember when Andy Biggs said, ‘The tariffs appear to be working?’”

Marshall Militano, 50-year retired trucking and transit operator:

“The price of diesel doesn’t just affect trucks. It affects every step of the supply chain. The agricultural machinery down in Yuma and Nogales runs on diesel. The trucks moving goods across Arizona run on diesel. And when diesel goes up, the cost of everything goes up right along with it.”

Aramark worker and UNITE HERE Local 11 member Gregoria Galarza:

“Nadie que trabaje tiempo completo debería tener tantas dificultades para salir adelante. Pero la realidad es esta porque políticos en Washington como Andy Biggs y David Schweikert han votado una y otra vez a favor de políticas que encarecen la vida.”

“No one working a full-time job should be struggling this much to get by. But it is this way because Washington politicians like Andy Biggs and David Schweikert have voted over and over again for policies that are making life more expensive.”

Irma Lopez, local restaurant owner:

“Que quede claro: sé lo que es trabajar duro. Y veo que hay muchas familias en Arizona, muchos de mis clientes, que trabajan duro, pero que lo están pasando mal porque los políticos de Washington siguen encareciendo la vida cada día que pasa.”

“Let me be clear: I know how to work hard. And I see that there are many families in Arizona, many customers of mine, who do work hard, but are struggling because Washington politicians keep making life more expensive with every passing day.”
