No Luck of the Irish: Biggs and Schweikert’s Tariff Taxes Leave Arizona Families Paying More on St. Patrick’s Day

3/16/26, 6:15 PM

As Arizonans prepare to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, the luck of the Irish is running thin at the checkout counter. Despite the Supreme Court ruling federal tariff taxes unconstitutional, Andy Biggs and David Schweikert voted twice last month to keep their cost-hiking tariff agenda in place.

Here is how Biggs and Schweikert’s tariffs are taking a bite out of your St. Paddy’s Day:

  • Local pub favorites like Guinness and Jameson were hit with 25 percent tariffs, which could rise to 200 percent. Even domestic drinks aren’t spared, as aluminum tariffs of up to 50 percent are driving up the cost of cans.

  • The ground beef in your shepherd’s pie is at an all-time high, having risen 16 percent over the past year to almost $7 per pound. Corned beef to pair with your cabbage jumped up 8.7 percent in the last year to $8 per pound.

  • This holiday follows the largest monthly price spike on groceries since the pandemic, with costs rising in five of the six major food-at-home categories according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Arizona families already paid an additional $1.6 billion in 2025 because of tariffs, a burden predicted to rise even further in 2026.After Trump imposed a universal 15 percent tariff tax, Biggs remained silent, and Schweikert went a step further to propose a new “universal tariff,” stating that he was “not going to let this whole thing fall apart” after the Supreme Court ruling.

Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:

“Andy Biggs and David Schweikert think Washington is delivering a pot of gold with their tariff taxes, but for Arizonans, there’s only a mounting pile of bills. There is no ‘luck of the Irish’ for working families who are paying more because Biggs and Schweikert would rather follow orders from Washington than stand up for Arizona families.”
