Biggs and Schweikert’s Cost-Hiking Tariff Agenda Is Grilling Arizona Families’ Budgets

As Arizonans celebrated the 250th anniversary of our nation this past Saturday, families gathering for backyard barbecues faced record-high prices for Fourth of July staples, including beef, soda, and beer. Despite the toll on Arizona families, Andy Biggs and David Schweikert have repeatedly voted to continue the cost-hiking tariff agenda that is driving up grocery prices across the state.
Ground beef hit another record high of nearly $7 per pound, part of a continuous, repeating trend of grocery costs squeezing Arizona families. In April alone, grocery prices climbed faster than any month in the last four years. Soda and beer prices are up as well, as aluminum tariffs have hit Arizona manufacturers and pushed prices up by as much as 50 percent.
Rather than standing up for Arizona families, Biggs and Schweikert have stood by Washington's cost-hiking agenda. Biggs has called these tariffs “a brilliant economic strategy” and argued that the tariffs were “not inflationary,” before claiming that Washington has “tamed inflation,” and stating that he would like to “explore [tariffs] more.” Schweikert, meanwhile, has bragged about personally “doing the calculations” with the White House on tariffs and proposed his own new tax instead of offering Arizonans relief.
Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:
“Andy Biggs and David Schweikert are the reason Arizona families are paying more for their backyard barbecue. They voted for Washington’s cost-hiking agenda, defended it every step of the way, and now Arizonans are the ones paying for it.”
