Arizona Republic Spotlights Andy Biggs Files, Featuring His Decades-Long Record of Protecting Pedophiles

Yesterday, the Arizona Republic spotlighted "The Andy Biggs Files,” Copper State War Room’s website exposing Andy Biggs’ decades-long record of protecting pedophiles and sex traffickers, including Warren Jeffs, the convicted child rapist who ran a forced-marriage cult in Colorado City, Arizona. 

As Arizona Senate president, Biggs blocked bipartisan legislation that would have protected underage girls from sexual abuse and forced child marriage. He was the lone "no" vote against a bill toughening penalties for child prostitution and was one of only two members who voted against releasing the Epstein files in committee, later dismissing accountability as a "gotcha game" and "PR stunt."

• Arizona Democrats today are launching a website amplifying the highlights (or lowlights, depending on how you look at it) of their opposition research on GOP gubernatorial hopeful Andy Biggs.

  
  

• "Andy Biggs has repeatedly found himself on the side of convicted sex offenders, their enablers, and the powerful insiders who protected them," declares the homepage of andybiggsfiles.com.

  
  

• The page highlights Biggs' move as Arizona Senate president in [2013] to kill a bipartisan bill that would have allowed a takeover of the police force in Colorado City, home to a polygamous sect of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

  
  

• The bill's Republican sponsor said it was needed to address systemic corruption and that Biggs allowed women and children to continue to suffer for years. My colleague Ron Hansen wrote a story wrapping up the issue in 2016 when Biggs was elected to represent the southeast Valley in Congress.

  
  

• Also magnified are Biggs' committee vote against releasing the files related to disgraced and Trump-connected financier Jeffrey Epstein (though Biggs did later vote to release the files) and his move in 2015 blocking a bill from then-Sen. Katie Hobbs to address a backlog of rape kits by requiring more reporting.

  
  

• Hobbs is now Biggs' Democratic opponent — and the foremost beneficiary of this new opposition site if it gains traction among swing voters.
