Arizona Farmers Paying the Price for Biggs' Tariffs Agenda

Andy Biggs' tariff agenda is hitting Arizona's farmers hard, especially in Yuma. After Washington imposed new 50 percent tariffs on Canadian imports that sparked a trade war between the two countries, Arizona's agricultural industry is bearing the brunt of the fallout.

Canada is Arizona's top agricultural export market, receiving 40 percent of all agricultural exports. Arizona farms, manufacturers, businesses, and families will now shoulder cost hikes on an estimated $430.8 million in agricultural imports, while risking $676 million in agricultural business with Canada. As Arizona's Family recently reported, the last time Canada scaled back its purchases, local leafy greens growers got hurt especially hard.

Despite the risk to Arizona agriculture, Biggs voted to protect Washington's tariffs, pushed to expand them further, and has even called them "a brilliant economic strategy." As Arizonans face rising costs at the checkout counter, Biggs has falsely claimed there is "no inflation," insisted the tariffs are "not inflationary," and argued Washington has "tamed inflation" and "brought everything back down."

Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado said:

"Andy Biggs' tariffs are squeezing Arizona farmers, but he won't own up to the damage. Families and businesses across the state are left covering the cost, proof once again of where his priorities lie: Washington first, Arizona last."
