Andy Biggs Chooses Waste, Fraud, and Abuse Over Arizona's Cops, Teachers, and Firefighters

6/29/26, 11:00 PM

In response to Andy Biggs killing a deal to protect Arizona’s cops, teachers, and firefighters while bringing accountability and transparency to the ESA program, Copper State Victory spokesperson Nicholas Simões Machado released the following statement:

“Andy Biggs shamefully killed a deal to protect Arizona’s police, firefighters, and teachers in order to protect loopholes allowing Arizona taxpayer dollars to be fraudulently spent on wasteful purchases like lingerie, diamond rings, and California theme parks. Instead of standing with cops, teachers, and firefighters, Andy Biggs is once again putting his partisan agenda first—and forcing Arizonans to pay the price."

BACKGROUND

  • Biggs proposed a plan that undermines bipartisan efforts to protect the rights of police, firefighters, and teachers while banning luxury purchases in the ESA entitlement program.

  • Prior to Biggs’ proposal, legislative Republicans had already supported a deal on June 12 to protect police, firefighters, and teachers while banning luxury purchases in the ESA program.

  • His proposal would leave untouched the loopholes that have allowed taxpayer dollars to be wasted on items such as California theme parks, lingerie, and diamond rings.
