Andy Biggs’ Tariff Agenda Drives Up Lumber Costs, Makes Arizona Housing More Expensive

Andy Biggs’ tariff agenda could soon drive up costs for Arizona businesses and families even more as a new 50 percent tariff hits Canadian imports, including lumber, aluminum, and other materials Arizona businesses rely on. From homebuilding to manufacturing and aerospace, businesses will be forced to absorb higher costs or pass them along to Arizona consumers.

According to the Arizona Republic, Arizona businesses are already bracing for higher costs on Canadian lumber, aluminum, and other critical imports. Arizona Technology Council CEO Steven Zylstra warned the tariffs could “ultimately increase costs for Arizona manufacturers and their customers.”

Despite the toll a 50 percent tariff on Canadian goods will take on Arizona's housing market and household budgets, Biggs voted to protect Washington's tariffs, pushed to expand them further, and has even called them "a brilliant economic strategy." As Arizonans face rising costs at the checkout counter, Biggs has falsely claimed there is "no inflation," insisted the tariffs are "not inflationary," and argued Washington has "tamed inflation" and "brought everything back down."
